Cranston City Council vice president to fill open seat representing parts of Cranston and Providence

CRANSTON, R.I. — Cranston City Council Vice President Lammis Vargas officially
became the state senator-elect from District 28 on Tuesday evening. Vargas will fill the
seat left open by retiring state Senator Josh Miller. She was unopposed in the General
Election following her win over 4 opponents in September’s Democratic Primary.
“I am ready to head to the State Senate to continue fighting for the people of Cranston
and Providence,” said Vargas. “Thank you to each and every voter who put their faith in
me and my campaign. I cannot wait to get to work for you.”

Over the course of her career, Vargas has served as Senior Policy Advisor to Rhode
Island General Treasurer James A. Diossa, as Deputy Secretary of State and Director
of Administration for former Rhode Island Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea and as
Deputy State Treasurer and Director of Unclaimed Property under former Treasurer
Seth Magaziner. Vargas is a cancer survivor, daughter of immigrant parents from
Colombia, a mother of two, married to a war veteran, and a Rhode Island College
graduate. She is running for the District 28 State Senate seat to continue fighting for the
quality of life that constituents in Cranston and Providence deserve.

Vote for strong, progressive leadership in the RI State House and an advocate who will fight for your health, housing, safety, environment, and education. #teamlammis
